After Hurricane Irma, an extremely powerful and nonetheless catastrophic Cape Verde-type of a hurricane which is also considered to be the strongest in terms of maximum sustained winds over the Atlantic since 2005’s Hurricane Wilma, another catastrophic event happened when a simple mistake on the correct hotline number caused the victims who called for damaged roof assistance to be offered phone sex instead.
This happened when FEMA, Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Region 4 office mistakenly tweeted a “1-800” number instead of a “1-888” last Wednesday. The tweet has been updated accordingly.
The recording said, “Welcome to America’s hottest talk line. Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you. Press ‘1’ to connect, free, now.”
